Health and Safety Policy

Membership of Longbridge Chess Club is open to all players of any age, race, gender or orientation.

The Austin Sports and Social Club excludes under-18’s from attending Tuesday Club in the lounge area.

Under 18’s can join Chess Club of a Thursday evening in the President’s Suite playing hall.

Chess Club has a duty of care towards all members; but especially in regard to any youngster or vulnerable person who attends Chess Club either as a member or visitor.

Longbridge Chess Club will not select under-18’s for away matches unless they are accompanied by a parent/guardian or an adult nominated by the parent/guardian.

Adults should avoid being alone with Junior Club members or visiting Juniors and should remember that words and gestures, however innocently intended, can sometimes be misinterpreted.

Unaccompanied under-18’s cannot attend Longbridge Chess Club activities.

Parents/guardians have a responsibility to accompany their children during Chess Club activities. As the Austin Sports & Social Club is open to the public we recommend parents/guardians monitor the children in their care at all times, especially in accompanying their children as far as the toilet.

Longbridge Chess Club must also insist that alcoholic beverages be strictly controlled in the presence of under-18’s ineligible to consume alcohol; and that on no account should any alcoholic drink be supplied to an underage person.

Longbridge Chess Club has a zero tolerance policy towards drugs of any description.

First Aid treatment or medication required by any young person must be administered by a parent/guardian or administered in the presence of a parent/guardian. Adult members of Chess Club should avoid administering First Aid involving the removal of children’s clothing unless in the presence of a parent/guardian. Call 999 if a serious incident occurs or send for medical assistance.

Anyone who has concerns regarding any aspect of Health and Safety, especially in relation to a young or vulnerable person; should raise the matter with the Club Safeguarding Officer, Deputy Safeguarding Officer or Club Secretary.

A copy of this notice is available to all Chess Club members and will be on displayed to all visiting Clubs during Match Nights. Health and Safety policy shall be displayed upon the Club noticeboard during Thursday Club.
