LONGBRIDGE CHESS RAFFLE 2024

The Longbridge Chess Club RAFFLE was drawn at Academy Thursday February 1st 2024.

Fundraising is often the only way income can stay one step ahead of our yearly overheads.

Despite the growth in membership, we also have significantly higher costs in 50 Room Hires each year, which has led to the Chess Club merely treading water in terms of sustainability. It is therefore important to find alternative revenue streams such as Donations and Proceeds from events and ideas such as this 2024 Raffle which raised £210.

All prizes were donated by individuals or the Chess Club itself.

Tickets were £5 per page.

I am pleased to announce the winner of the 1st prize was one of our youngest Academy students 8-year-old CASPER. Seen here enjoying his prize almost every day!

1st Prize: a weighted Chess Set as used in Longbridge Chess Matches, together with one of our very nice Wooden Match Boards, plus a superb DGT 3000 Chess Clock with computer link technology, and a choice of Chess Book plus scoresheets and pad. Total approximate value £190.

2nd Prize was won by NAM NGUYEN: a Glass Chess Set, Antique Analogue Chess Clock, a bonus Antique Chess Set, a choice of Chess Book, Scoresheets and pad. Total approximate value £80.

3rd Prize was taken home by BRIJ AGGARWAL: a quality Chess Set, uPVC board, Analogue Chess Clock as above, a choice of Chess Book, Scoresheets and pad. Brij chose the book “Everything You Need To Know About Chess.” Total approximate value £80.

There were a choice of 11 Chess Books.

With £350 in prizes; the Raffle utilized many Club assets which were either donated or surplus to requirement sitting in storage. However, the £210 proceeds will be used wisely.

All the money raised will be used to add improvements to Chess Club in one form or another; to facilitate new equipment purchases, to help fund Room Hire payments for a Thursday evening, and to help freeze Membership Fees for another year!

It’s been a long hard struggle to reach this point whereby Longbridge Chess Club can look forward to sustainability at the Austin Sports & Social Club.

I can only say well done to the winners Casper, Nam and Brij and commiserations to everyone else.

Thank you to everyone that purchased tickets.

Steve
